The Youth Mental Health Project: A Safe Place for Families

The Youth Mental Health Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting families and communities in their efforts to educate people about mental health and mental illness in children. They run youth mental health programs and support groups in many areas all over the country, and they are always looking for supporters and eager volunteers to help out in their mission.

The organization was founded in New York by lawyer, public speaker, filmmaker, and mom Randi Silverman. She wanted to help people understand mental illness in children — make them see that it’s not just an illness so that they could help their own kids. In 2011, she created a support network for more than a thousand families in the Westchester New York area. Since then, the support network has expanded to be a nationwide organization dedicated to providing youth mental health programs for families in many different situations.

The Youth Mental Health Project emphasizes that everyone is welcome at their youth mental health programs, no matter their child’s mental health status. The community is open and welcome, ready to support families dealing with a variety of conditions, in a variety of socioeconomic circumstances.
